In a culture saturated with topics like health, beauty, and self-care, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed with all the information, tips, opinions, and products. In recent years, “self-care” has been a major topic. Many people deal with high-stress levels, depression, anxiety, and packed schedules. If we do not take care of ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and
spiritually, mental health can plummet, and physical illness can become a major issue. However, caring for ourselves should go beyond the “self-care” that we see on social media – it goes beyond drinking your water, thinking positive thoughts, and taking a nap.

DRINK YOUR WATER –
Drinking water is crucial to living a healthy life! Water makes up 60% of an average adult human, and is crucial in all bodily processes. Hydration helps your body to carry oxygen, helps your joints to move, and gives you healthy skin and hair. To feel your best, drink your water! But,
do not just drink your physical water – drink your water at the well of Jesus. The spiritual water Christ offers not only leaves you hydrated spiritually, but it carries you through all of life, no matter what may come. “…If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. The one who
believes in me, as the scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.” – John 7:37-38

THINK POSITIVE –
Mental health matters, too. What you put in your mind will influence all of your life – so why not fill it with quality things? But, do not get caught up in the popular, surface things that culture says to think about yourself. True mental peace and joy are found in setting your mind and heart on the things that are true because God says them. Focusing on what you are grateful for helps you to feel peace and joy! God’s Word, the Bible, has everything to say about life, what is true, and what there is to know about you – you are valued, chosen, intentionally, and wonderfully made! “Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right,
whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” – Philippians 4:8

TAKE A NAP –
Rest is another crucial aspect of overall health and wellness. Getting enough sleep can increase your immune system, improve your memory, and enhance your mental state and function. To truly feel your best all around, getting enough sleep is crucial. But, oftentimes, simply sleeping
will not solve all your problems. Rest for your mind and soul is essential. We can find rest for our souls in time with Christ and other followers of Christ. True rest and peace are available anytime, even in the midst of work, stress, school, and schedules. God says, “Come to me, all
you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28 Your body and mind are a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). You were created for far greater things than stress, achievements, and rush hour. Make time to take care of your body, mind, and soul – you are worth it and there is so much to life to live!

Go beyond “self-care.”
